Possibilities: The North Shore
The River Above The River Below
The River Above The River Below
The unified loop around the Avon River marking its Histories and Possibilities.
Like the trails and features surrounding Gallery Stratford, the trail along the north shore of the Avon has become somewhat isolated from the larger system of parkland in Stratford. We would like to correct this by bringing greater attention to the path across the bridge or railway trestle and emphasizing its connection to the extensive Lower Queens parklands and the continued River Commons Trail.
As noted, the North Shoreline enhancement projects were intended to address climate change and secure the shoreline from erosion while improving water quality. We propose that the River Commons pathway consider closing the pathway loop by restoring public access along the North Shore west of the William Hutt Bridge, either by a ground pathway or boardwalk, or a combination of the two. This links the north shore to the Orr Dam through the Shakespearean Gardens and creates aspirations to perfect the pathway by connecting it to the T.J. Dolan natural area.
The River Above the River Below is a vision inspired by the Provocations Ideas Festival.
