The pathways of the River Commons lead directly to the nearby Gallery Stratford, the Japanese waterfall, and the planned labyrinth in Burnham Wood. But these routes are largely unknown and infrequently travelled by visitors to the city. We propose renewed trails and appropriate signage, and recognition at the lookout to identify and include the Gallery and its parklands in the whole system of greenspace along the borders of the Avon.
Ironically, Gallery Stratford has a natural connection to the Avon. The building that houses the Gallery began life as a waterworks pump house and equipment storage facility. Reconnecting the Gallery to the larger network of parkland will close the circle and raise the consciousness of citizens and visitors alike about the scope of the River Commons. In the process, it will hopefully drive more traffic to Gallery Stratford also.
The River Above the River Below is a vision inspired by the Provocations Ideas Festival.
