The River Above The River Below
The River Above The River Below
This project is meant to create an enhanced, integrated River Commons trail. It seeks to tell the stories of past citizens with the courage to propose ambitious initiatives that bequeathed us, the residents of Stratford today, a beautiful network of parks and sites of interest that includes the likes of the Tom Patterson theatre, the Shakespearean Gardens, the Allward monument and other sites (including the adjacent City Hall that was only saved following a well organized campaign by local citizens).
At the same time, this project seeks to highlight difficult issues currently facing the Commons and prioritize new infrastructure to protect and enhance our parklands. A clear connection to Gallery Stratford at one end and the T.J. Natural Area at the other, the creation of immersive experiences such as an idea tree or a future past capsule, and foregrounding of the environmental fragility of the waterways we value would all encourage civic dialogue and inclusive public spaces. And by telling stories about visionaries of the past, we are better equipped to preserve and enhance this vital environment for future generations.
The River Above the River Below is a vision inspired by the Provocations Ideas Festival.
